From 1998 to around 2002 I played an awful lot of Quake - first Quake 2 then moving onto Quake 3 with most of the scene. I wrote and edited Challenge-UK, a Quake scene news site, for much of that period, along with RainyaH. Unfortunately the domain registration lapsed some time ago, but you can find much of the content via the Wayback Machine at the Internet Archive.
I don't play any more, but I used to play in the quake teams and leagues listed below.
Mostly defunct, although I'm still in touch with friends from many of them.
I suspect that most of these don't exist any more either, but at least I'll have the urls for the Wayback Machine if I feel nostalgic.
In 2000, when I was studying at Imperial, we played a set of quake 3 matches against a team from Cambridge University. We won comfortably, and through careful use of binds produced one neat screenshot. I believe it ended up in PCGamer, although we were never credited. It actually seems a bit mean now, but the Cambridge guys were very good sports about the whole thing
We also played the year before, and I believe we won that too, but I have no evidence either way.
After much experimentation, I finally arrived at a config I was comfortable with. Below, you can find versions for Q3, Q2 and QW.
